School Funding Down – Lowest in the Last 10 Years

The DfE has finally admitted that school funding is down since 2010, showing that the average pupil of today is roughly 2 per cent lower than what it was at the start of the decade. The government had previously insisted that school budgets are at record levels, and although it increased slightly last academic year, it is still low.

The government has plans to invest an extra £7.1 billion in schools throughout England over a three-year period from 2020-21. The DfE have stated that without a rise in teacher pay and pension contributions, the funding gap compared to 2010 will only increase.

How Can We Increase Budgets in Schools?

As of the 30th January 2020, the government announced that local authorities throughout the country will be required by law to ensure all schools receive their minimum funding entitlements from next year but is this doable for most schools?
