England’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, has told MP’s that teaching is not a high-risk occupation for Coronavirus and children should be in school.
Teaching in Primary – Low Risk
After the national announcement from PM Boris Johnson on Saturday, schools are not to be included in the second national lockdown to confront the spread of COVID-19.
Chris Whitty has stated, ‘The transmission in primary school children is a relatively small contribution, although not zero; it is very small. Secondary schools can be debated, specifically with the older students.’
Since the announcement, the NEU teaching union has started a petition to include schools in the National lockdown. As of today, the petition has over 150,000 signatures from teachers and other school staff.
