With all the terrible news in the world now; coronavirus, airlines closing, sports fixtures being postponed, it is nice to know that there are nice things still going on. A 7-year-old boy has been selected to represent Wales under-21 squad in short mat bowls.
Fantastic Squad Achievement
Having only started the sport five months ago, it is fantastic to see such a fantastic achievement for somebody so young and proves that primary schools should be pushing extra-curricular activities as much as possible. If you are an educator, you may have a sport natural in your class without you knowing it; the only way to find out is by trialling them!
Short-mat bowls is an indoor variation of the lawn game played on roll-down carpet but still played with full-size bowls. According to the Welsh Short Mat Bowls Association, the game was first invented when two individuals, who wanted to play bowls outside, couldn’t due to the weather so decided to play indoors instead.
Does your school play Short-Mat Bowls? Do you have young people in your school who are sport naturals?
