Unfortunately, in education, you hear some horror stories; from the children themselves or their families, teachers hear some disturbing tales. A teacher’s union has questioned whether teachers need support, possibly one-to-one, in order to deal with being ‘on the front line of their students’ narratives.
Domestic Violence and Drug Abuse
It is, of course, important for students to be able to trust their teacher enough to tell them what is going on in their personal life however when domestic violence and drug abuse come into it; this could greatly affect the educator over time as teachers tend to take everything home with them.
As well as concentrating our efforts on training for staff to battle mental health in our students, it must be noted that teachers need help sometimes too. Perhaps training could be offered to notice certain mental health triggers in colleagues? Which in the grand scheme of things within a school, staffing is just as important as the curriculum they are teaching.
