A report has been published today stating that a fifth of young people in the UK have been bullied in the past 12 months. Out of those, three out of four people said that the bullying directly affected their mental health which then led to depression in over half of them. Interestingly, the figures released are almost identical to last year meaning, what has been done to tackle bullying in young people?
There is No Escape
The research found that the most common type of bullying is verbal, with cyber bullying being the least common however still common Of those bullied, 41 per cent said they were anxious daily and 33 per cent had suicidal thoughts and, in most cases, the ones who exhibited negative attitudes were males. One case included a 14-year-old boy who explained that he was bullied at school, came home and was bullied online; he felt as though there was no escape.
