Physical Attacks on the Rise

In the last year, a quarter of teachers have said that physical violence in schools have increased in various schools across the country. A very similar number of teachers have stated that verbal abuse has increased as well, with many believing that the violence is being exacerbated by social media. With the release of this report, there is a huge desire to have police presence in schools by school leaders, pastoral care, teachers and support staff.

Pupils Not Reported

The report, shockingly, showed that there were incidences where teachers found pupils carrying knives, and did not report them to the police. Although it does not seem to be a direct influence, many believe that social media is having an amplified and aggressive effect on pupils where social media has been the cause of 21 per cent of physical fights and 23 per cent of school exclusions.

The DfE have announced they will offer £10 million to establish ‘behaviour hubs’ where schools can come together to discuss behaviour strategies.
