Teaching applications for primary schools have fallen by 6.3% this year alone, compared to this time last year. Although this is bad news for the younger students, secondary teacher training applications have risen slightly by 1.8%. The current process allows training teachers to create three applications, based on the figures given by UCAS, 24,870 people have applied for a postgraduate course so far this year; this being slightly down from last year’s figures of 25,140.
One very good note is that applications in secondary mathematics and science have both showed small increases, although these are small increases; it must be noted that Rikama reported on the science curriculum last month, with findings showing that numbers were decreasing in this field. We at Rikama are very happy to see these numbers going the right way. One must ask the question though; why have primary job applications fallen? Funding? Behaviour? Management?
