Mental Health Services are ‘rapidly deteriorating’ which could cause children to have a higher risk of long-term psychological problems. The child and Adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) have had such drastic budget cuts that only those who can pay for help are being treated, leaving countless amounts of children and young people left without the help they desperately need.
A very worrying statistic that has been released this morning is that pupils who are ‘self-harming, including cutting themselves and overdoses,’ are being turned away from CAMHS up to four times before they receive help; these mental health rises in the younger generation are said to be a direct influence of exam pressure and social media.
The mental health services are overstretched, teenagers are being kept on hospital wards for weeks at a time with no access to education, alongside this, clinical psychologists were being made redundant based on funds; these professionals are now going private so the help is available if you are able to pay. What are your thoughts on this?
