The current frontrunner for the next prime minister, Boris Johnson, has stated that the education sector would receive funding ‘from day 1,’ in a major contract to rival Jeremy Hunt, saying that education would be a ‘social mission’ for him, focussing more on the NHS. In an interview, Mr Johnson says that education is the ‘single most important thing we Conservatives believe in,’ he goes on to say that schools have been falling behind in their ‘per capita provision.’ Although these are just wording, not actions yet, it is nice to hear that the conservatives care about our education system and more funding will be given.
Extra funding for SEN
Mr Johnson also wants to assist wherever he can with special educational needs, giving extra funding to local authorities to ensure that there is enough help nearby for each student. When asked about where this funding would come from, Mr Johnson very plainly said, ‘there is cash available.’
What do you think about the funding our government could provide? Could Boris Johnson be the one to help the education sector?
